5th St Unity Bridge

Update September 2015:

We're done!  Thank you to all our partners:
Please see below for a breakdown of our fundraising.

Strolling along Kaslo River Trail
The Kaslo Trailblazers' first goal when they were formed in 2005 was to establish a trail loop along the Kaslo River with two bridge crossings on the east and west ends of the trail.

The 2.8 km Kaslo River Trail and Trailblazers Bridge opened in 2008 and were built as a labour of love with mostly local donations of money, time and materials.  Many people sponsored plaques displayed on the bridge and engraved with something meaningful to them - their name, those of their loved ones, memorials, celebrations, even quotes.

The Trailblazers have compled the Kaslo River Trail loop by building the second pedestrian bridge.  The new bridge is be wheelchair friendly and provides a pleasant shortcut and alternative to the highway bridge for pedestrians entering the Village from the south side.

We want the new bridge to be a UNITY bridge with plaques from all over the world.  So far we have sponsors from several Canadian provinces, U.S. states, and countries.  With your help we hope to increase out-of-country representation.

Perhaps you're a resident who would like to be reminded of far-away loved ones every time you cross the bridge.  Perhaps you're a visitor that would like to have a little piece of paradise here with your name on it.  Or perhaps you have a message to share with those who appreciate this beautiful place as much as you do.

Whatever the reason, we encourage you or friends and family to read our donation appeal letter (PDF) for more information about the bridge, sample plaques, and a form that can be printed and mailed to us with your message.

Bridge plaques are $150, but your donations of any amount are gratefully accepted. You can:
  • mail a cheque or money order in Canadian funds along with your plaque message to Box 1024, Kaslo, BC, V0G 1M0
  • donate on-line by credit card through secure site Canada Helps
  • e-mail us if you have any questions
All gifts of $20.00 or more will receive a Canadian tax receipt.
