Summer 2019 Trail work update

Hi there
KORTS has been successful in 2 grant applications (CBT Trail Enhancement Grant = $25,000 + $8000 cash and in-kind from BC Rec Sites and Trails; RDCK Kaslo Area Trail Enhancement Project = $29,550) for trail enhancement and upgrades for the 2019 summer. We have hired Steve Doucet as the the Trail Crew Supervisor once again after a very successful 2018 summer trail work project. Steve is in the process of hiring a small trail crew.

The summer 2019 projects are:
1. Kaslo River Trail upgrades and enhancements including trail re-routes to avoid spring freshet flooding.
2. Mt Buchanan Rec Area trail development to complete Songbird loop, and establish a downhill bike trail from FSR 7 to Kaslo Wagon Road trail.
3. Locate and place signage based on the Kaslo Trail Alliance Sign Plan that establishes a uniform and consistent signage system across all recreation trails.

KORTS is in the process of applying for a 2nd round CBT Trail Enhancement Grant (due May 14) for work on the Nordic trail area including: grading the rough trail left after widening the Nordic Trail (Kaslo Wagon Road trail) last autumn, placing culverts and establishing drainage as needed, developing a short loop trail near the Moose Meadow Equipment Shed and Warm-Up cabin, and if $ permits then possibly a youth Nordic ski play and "pump track" area.

So, you will once again see a KORTS Trail Crew working hard this summer….stop and say Hi and Thanks for all their hard work.

Happy Trails,

Stu
